Digital Footwork: Engineering a Platform Worthy of the 210

In San Antonio, we earn our space. "Digital Footwork" explores how we moved beyond templates to build a custom, decoupled Shopify Hydrogen platform for TXMX Boxing—integrating real-time media pipelines and a data architecture designed to power the next generation of San Antonio’s boxing culture.

Digital Footwork: Engineering a Platform Worthy of the 210

In San Antonio, nothing worthwhile is ever given; it’s earned. I’m a son of this city, born and raised in the neighborhoods that define our spirit. My journey didn't start in a clean office with a keyboard; I found my space in tech later in life, trading physical labor for lines of code. But while the tools changed, the work ethic remained the same.

When it came time to build the digital home for TXMX Boxing, a standard, "off-the-shelf" template wasn't an option. You can't capture the soul of a fighter or the legacy of the 210 with a drag-and-drop builder. To honor the "Blood, Sweat, and Tears" of the TXMX founders, we had to build a system as custom and gritty as the gym floor.

The Architecture: Why We Went Decoupled

We made the deliberate choice to build a decoupled (headless) experience using Shopify Hydrogen and Next.js. In plain English: we stripped away the "easy" storefront fluff to build a custom skeleton from the ground up.

The Hydrogen Advantage

By using Hydrogen (Shopify’s React-based framework), we separated the "head" (the part you see) from the "body" (the commerce engine). This allowed us to:

  • Achieve Cinematic Performance: Standard themes carry heavy "bloat." By building with React components, we ensured the site feels like a high-performance athlete—fast, lean, and responsive.
  • Unrestricted Creative Control: We used v0 to rapidly wireframe and iterate on UI components, allowing us to visualize complex layouts for the Founders Tee launch before writing a single line of production CSS.
  • Custom Stripe Checkouts: Instead of the generic Shopify checkout flow, we utilized API integrations to create a seamless, branded payment experience that keeps users immersed in the TXMX environment from cart to confirmation.

The Real-Time Mirror: Google Drive API Integration

One of the most critical requirements for the Rise of a Champion event at the Tobin Center was speed. We wanted the fans and fighters to see their greatness mirrored back to them in real-time. Traditionally, event photography takes days to process and upload. We broke that bottleneck by building a custom pipeline using the Google Drive API.

  1. Direct-to-Lens Upload: Our photographers upload raw talent directly to a monitored cloud directory.
  2. Automated Transformation: The platform listens for these uploads, pulls the images, and dynamically serves them to the front end.
  3. Instant Delivery: This turned a 48-hour turnaround into a near-instant experience. For the people in the stands, their stories and faces were available to view and share while the sweat was still drying on the canvas.

Powering "The 8 Count": The Backend Engine

Everything we’ve built—from the data architecture to the API logic—is designed to support something much bigger than a single shop. We are building the connective tissue for the city's boxing future. The platform serves as the engine for the upcoming launch of The 8 Count: The Feed for Fight Fans. Unlike a simple blog, the backend is a structured data system built to handle:

  • Dynamic Fighter Profiles: Aggregating stats and media through a unified database.
  • Scalable Content Delivery: Ensuring that as the "210" voice grows louder, the infrastructure can handle the load.
  • Protected Heritage: By owning our data architecture, we ensure our culture isn't just "renting" space on a social media platform—it’s permanent and protected.

Built to Last

At DEVSA, we believe technology should carry the gravity of the culture it represents. Like a fighter switching stances to find a new opening, my transition into tech was about finding a way to serve San Antonio through a new medium. TXMX isn't just a boxing promotion, and this isn't just a website. It’s living history, elevated and unapologetically proud. We’ve done the digital footwork. Now, it’s time to show the world what we’re capable of. Somos Boxeo. Levantamos Los Puños.
